That typically means starting with a push-button (AKA, “spincasting”) model, then moving to a fixed spool spinning reel before finally graduating to a level wind baitcaster. While a spincaster is reserved for new anglers, spinning reels and baitcasting reels are both used by experienced anglers, which is the source of the debate of baitcaster vs. There’s a generally-accepted premise that freshwater anglers move from the least complex form of fishing reel types to the most difficult to master as they progress in the sport. Doody stringently avoided glamour and nude work, a clause which she extended to her acting career. Doody attended Mount Anville Secondary School.Īpproached by a photographer, Doody took up modelling, which turned into a career in commercial modelling. (Note, for example, that many words in this list contain the initial letter more than once, on the assumption that this makes it easier to identify however, I was unable to find satisfactory words for all of the letters.) It will also be necessary to test all the words to determine their reliability–in terms of phonological recognition, as well as general acceptance in U.S. The first step would probably be to make sure that the code words are the best possible ones to fulfill the selection criteria–as well as any other criteria which may be included. I invite anyone who is interested in this project to contact me for discussion. Radiotelephony spelling alphabet for U.S. In such a case the sender would say, for example, "Angel, as in guardian angel". English.Įach code word is preceded by a word or phrase which could be used to provide semantic context in case the hearer does not recognize the word on first hearing, which is most likely to happen in cases of poor sound transmission. In order to make it potentially workable, I have been guided by the following criteria: the words should be (1) at most three syllables long, (2) while providing sufficient phonological clues to differentiate them from similar words, (3) and sufficiently common in casual speech to be familiar to most speakers of all social and regional versions of U.S. (An international alphabet, as some of the existing ones purport to be, would need to be very different.) It is not necessarily intended to be memorized, though frequent users might find it useful to do so. This version is designed to be used by speakers of U.S. The version presented below is my first attempt, which I offer as a model to be discussed and modified as needed. However, there seems to be a need for such an alphabet, and I would like to invite any linguists interested in developing one which would meet some key linguistic criteria (see next paragraph) to join me in creating it. It worked reasonably well, because Army people were accustomed to it, but–for a number of reasons–I do not find it useful now for occasions when I have to spell words over the phone. I personally had experience with the military version when I served in the U.S. military version, which are used for spelling names and other words over the telephone and radio. Most subscribers to Language Log will be familiar with the NATO alphabet, and other alphabets such as the U.S. In 1930, shareholders in the Western Clock Company approved a merger with the Seth Thomas Clock Company. As such, we do not repair Westclox watches. It is almost certain that the cost of repairs would exceed the value of the watch. In later years, many of them were riveted together and are not easily disassembled for repair. They were very inexpensively made movements, with stamped out plates and pin-pallet escapements. Unfortunately, many Westclox watches are not good candidates for repair. Many a lad (including this watchmaker) received a Westclox pocket watch for a birthday or Christmas gift, and while only a few Westclox watches are considered to be monetarily valuable by collectors today, they represent a fascinating part of American watch history because of the volume of watches produced and are easily collectible because they can often be purchased quite inexpensively.Ī few of the more popular Westclox models were: The American, Bulls Eye, Boy Proof (designed with special "tamper-proof" back), Country Gentleman, Dax, Everbrite, Johnny Zero, Pocket Ben, Scotty, and Team Mate (made with various sports team markings). By 1920, the company was producing 15,000 watches per day! The trademark for the Westclox name was filed in 1916, but the Westclox name first appeared on a watch in about 1911. The company produced thousands of lower-grade watches including many pin-pallet "dollar-style" watches. They also produced small, decorative "handbag watches" which were designed to be carried in a woman's purse. Westclox began producing pocket watches around the turn of the 19th century. Originally started by Charles Stahlberg as the United Clock Company, the Western Clock Manufacturing Company (later simply Westclox) was primarily a producer of small clocks, including wind-up alarm clocks. Westclox Advertisement, circa 1950 Westclox: The "Boy Proof" Pocket Watch In Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, fans are introduced to Yoda, a Master Jedi who went into hiding on Dagobah following the mass Jedi genocide of Order 66. Either way this is going to be on my watch list for at least 2 more episodes. The storylines within Star Wars have always touched on the fulfillment of prophecy for the sake of cosmic balance in the Force, though in the early days of the franchise, some of those prophetic promises remained unfulfilled by the time any particular storyline came to its natural conclusion–though in one case, Princess Leia actually paid off one of those unfulfilled promises that was set up by none other than Yoda himself. There isn’t much mystery to the show yet, but it feels like there might be some to come in the future. However, the episode had plenty of good action, and the characters are enjoyable enough when they aren’t being sexual (it’s pretty tame in relation to other anime to be honest). At least it’s not Galileo Galelei, with it’s time travelling lol-cest plotine! You scare me lady O_O I’m sure it’s funny to some people, so I won’t begrudge them for that, but for me, it’s a tired unfunny trope. Enju is plenty pervy herself, offering herself to Rentaro a few times in the episode, but he’s thankfully not biting. It’s the one seriously negative mark so far on the show. Sumire Muroto is a researcher.who makes very suggestive sexual statements….that feel a bit rapey to be honest. We meet Rentaro’s boss Kisara Tendou, who pretty much fits the “hardened cop chief who happens to be a teenage girl” trope. The rest of the episode introduces us to some more of the cast, though mostly just pervy female characters. His loli partner Enju gets to it first (because Rentaro left her behind of all things) and with him they take out the Human turned Spider in a capably animated fight that gives us another dose of action for the episode. He makes a quick exit, and then Rentaro’s off to catch the rogue Gastrea. Rentaro’s present day run-in also introduces us to what looks like to be the big bad of the season, and he seems pretty sturdy, putting a snapped neck back in place at one point. It definitely pumps you up and not in a superficial way. This was a solid opening, with good action and an awesome score. We then flash forward to teenage Rentaro, on a case to catch another Gastrea. The opening shows us a broken Tokyo, forced into a camp, where kid Rentaro comes face to face with an infected Gastrea, who has become a mosquito looking creature. Honest reaction to the first episode was very positive, and I’minterested in what is to come from this series. Initiators are made up of the ranks of the Cursed Children, children born with the Gastrea virus, who by plot dictation, are all female. Defense comes in the form of a Promoter, our male protagonist Rentaro, and a Initiator, our female protagonist (and loli) Enju. The setting is 2021 (so 7 years into the future), where a parasite named Gastrea has forced humans to live behind a metal wall for protection (Attack On Titan flashes before your eyes here, but the show has enough to differentiate itself.) The virus causes humans to morph into types of insect like monsters, who then wreak havok. I’m hoping that our world doesn’t go to crap as quick as this show seems to think it will. An exciting start, even with the onslaught of odd female characters….īlack Bullet Episode 1 Recap – “The Last Hope”
I use this more for pdf creation and personal journaling than anything else. My work around is typing something ahead of time in a word document and then importing it into the app, but honestly, it would be nice if I didn’t have to do that (maybe I am being too picky)… Otherwise, this a really excellent, solid app that I recommend highly to folks for note-taking. I would be nice if there was a feature you could enable within the notebook where if you could type in a notebook like a normal word document. But having to use the text boxes for more type-intensive tasks can be a bit annoying at times. When I am doing journaling, it is very nice to put text exactly where I want it, so I don’t want the feature to go away. It does have a typing feature, but it’s a bit clunky and not very intuitive. I only have one pet peeve when it comes to this app. Plus there are som many other excellent features, such as being able to search in your hand written notes and the ability to back-up your notebooks, to name a few. I enjoy the elements feature, which allows me to add custom sticker that I use all the time as post-its or stickers for journaling. I enjoy taking handwritten notes in it with my apple pencil and being able to easily import pdfs that I can mark up is great. Great app if you are considering starting/ transitioning to digital note-taking/ journaling. Honestly, I really love using this app! It is very well thought out and I can use it for many different kinds of workflows. This is an excellent app! I only have one pet peeve…
If Pokémon is completely new to you, then you should probably give Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl a go before delving into Coromon, as these are the Pokémon titles currently available that most closely resemble the gameplay era that Coromon is attempting to emulate.Īs Coromon‘s gameplay is roughly 80% identical to that other monster-catching title, we’ll be focusing on the 20% where things are different for the purposes of this review. We’re going to assume that if you have any sort of interest in Coromon, you’re already familiar with the basics of Pokémon‘s gameplay, so we’re not going to repeat those here. If anything, Coromon resembles a fan-made romhack more than something that was built from scratch, although it also introduces new concepts and builds on the foundation laid by its more famous predecessor rather than offering up a carbon copy. There have been other Poké-clones in the past, like Nexomon or Temtem but none of these have felt as close to Game Freak’s massively successful franchise as this game. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Coromon shares the majority of its gameplay DNA with the Pokémon series. Take note, Game Freak! There is no voice acting for the human characters though, which is understandable but also a bit disappointing. We also enjoyed how the game has the Coromon say their names rather than relying on Game Boy-esque sounds for their cries. One of the more memorable tracks is the music that plays when you encounter a wild monster -which is a good thing as you’ll be hearing plenty of it- but the remainder of Coromon’s OST features plenty of tracks that capture the right atmosphere. The music carries the same vibe as that of early Pokémon titles, albeit with a higher fidelity. As for the Coromon themselves, these aren’t as inspired or memorable as actual Pokémon, although there are several designs in there that are definitely great looking. This does come at the cost of the game not implementing larger character sprites in battle scenes. There’s also a character creation tool for your overworld sprite and you’ll find that your character occasionally obtains new outfits and accessories, some of which are relevant to the plot, so it’s a nice touch to see tiny details change on your sprite. The vibrant, pixelated graphics seen in Coromon resemble the art style of Pokémon Black & White to a certain degree, and although we’ve grown tired of pixel art, we have to admit that it just works for the kind of game that Coromon wants to be. The writing is a cut above what we expected, and it’s filled with pop culture references ranging from memes to the lyrics of Weird Al Yankovic’s Amish Paradise. Coromon is a far more story-driven experience than your typical Pokémon title and it’s best experienced for yourself. The story that unfolds also takes a wildly different direction, which sees you track down the six elemental Titans to gather their essence in order to prevent a mysterious alien race from pulling what seems to be an evil scheme -we’re not going to delve too deep into the plot as we feel like we’ve already said too much by mentioning these aliens. That’s right, instead of playing as a kid, this time you get to be an adult with an actual job, as a battle researcher. Instead, your self-inserted character is the latest recruit for Lux Solis, an organization tasked with researching Coromon. There are no ten-year-old kids that set out to defeat gym leaders and take on the Coromon league here. The narrative is the first instance where Coromon deviates itself from the classic Pokémon formula. But as the old adage goes: “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” Yes, we’re looking at perhaps the most blatant Pokémon clone we’ve ever laid our eyes on, so it’s pretty much impossible not to compare Coromon to the games that it heavily “borrows” from. If, in an alternate timeline, Game Freak had decided to stick closer to the DS-era Pokémon games, then the series could have evolved into something pretty close to Coromon, the subject of today’s review. |
